We’re delighted to introduce you to our new website where we hope you’ll find all the information you’ll need about who we are and about the services we offer, both direct to the research community and to publishers and editorial agencies as well.
Catalyst Editorial began life as a seed of an idea last summer, when we sat down and thought about how we could combine our scientific knowledge and editorial experience to help guide and catalyse the communication and publication of research. We were keen to work directly with the research community but also with publishers, particularly not-for-profit and open access publishers, who we believe serve a vital role in the future of scientific publishing. We also care deeply about research integrity and publishing ethics. In fact, we called the company Catalyst Editorial not only to reflect the role we can play in the communication of research but also to reflect our desire to be a catalyst for change in the area of research integrity. We put this aspiration into practice by working with Institutes on their research ethics policies and practices and by running workshops on research integrity and publishing ethics. Over the course of the past year, we’ve given presentations to group leaders and institute managers and directors on research integrity, and training workshops to early career investigators. The level of engagement and discussion on each occasion has been remarkable, and the issues we’ve explored educational. We plan to share more of our experience of providing training and guidance on research integrity in subsequent posts on this blog.
As former scientists ourselves and with many colleagues and peers in the academic community, we’re also well aware of the pressures that researchers work under every day. The pressure to publish, the pressure to compete for grants, and the pressure to meet the many other demands on your time, which all too often take you away from the lab. This is where we can help. We can provide advice and editorial input on your manuscripts and grant applications, your book chapters and review articles. We can work in partnership with you to ensure the effective communication of your research, to maximize its impact and its funding and publication potential. And we’re a safe pair of hands – as reflected in the feedback of our clients over the course of this year.
Publishers and editorial agencies also consider us to be a safe pair of hands. We appreciate also the pressure that many editorial teams work under, particularly during periods of staff turnover, high submissions and staff leave. So we offer a range of services to the publishing community as well, from providing freelance editorial support to running editorial projects.
We’d love to hear from you if you have any questions – do please get in touch. And if you like our ethos and what we do, share our contact details and this website with your friends and colleagues. Or follow us on twitter.
